The JIPSD is proud to announce the opening of the new Fire Department Headquarters. This building is built to Category 3 Hurricane Standards and has space to accommodate other JIPSD Operations in times of emergency. The Headquarters replaces the old building at 1622 Camp Road that has served the community for 61 years. Chris Seabolt, Fire Chief stated “this building has been constructed for current and future operations, gives the firefighters an excellent new home, incorporates some of the latest technology, and hopes this new building will last at least as long as the last one”.
The Fire Department is planning on an open house some time in June with more information coming in the future. Chief Seabolt welcomes tour requests by calling the On-Duty Battalion Chief at (843) 270-1583.
JIPSD Fire Department takes delivery of new pumper that will cover the South End of the Island including neighborhoods like Sol Leagre, Tern’s Nest, Battery Island, and Grimbal Road to name a few. Chief Seabolt stated “This new pumper will be housed at Fire Station 4, 1833 Folly Road and should be in-service by the end of May”. The pumper is the third apparatus with the new paint scheme adopted a few years ago. “We are very proud of the support the Commission and our citizens have provided us to update our fire apparatus to better serve our community”, Chief Seabolt stated.
Due to inclement weather, JIPSD offices and solid waste services will shut down at 1:00 pm on Thursday, March 18th. All roll cart garbage collection should be complete by then, and any debris left behind will be collected next week. Please secure your roll-carts, remaining debris, and any other outside items that could potentially become a projectile in the impending storms.
All essential employees (first responders) are on duty and on-call.
Please follow South Carolina Emergency Management Division for information on severe weather alerts.
On Thursday, February 25, Charleston County and Fetter Health Care will be administering COVID-19 vaccines to citizens at the Baxter-Patrick James Island Library. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The library is located at 1858 South Grimball Road.
Citizens under Phase 1 A are eligible to receive a vaccine. That includes anyone 65 and older, health care workers, a parent of a medically fragile child, and critical essential workers defined by the South Carolina Department of Health. You can find phase 1a guidelines at scdhec.gov.
Vaccines are available on a first come, first serve basis. To fill out paperwork citizens need to bring a Personal Photo ID, an Employment photo ID (if applicable), an Insurance card, or social security number if you do not have insurance.
We do expect there to be extra traffic in the South Grimball Road area tomorrow. If you live near the library we ask for your patience as we work to vaccinate citizens. There will be crews directing traffic and guiding those getting vaccinate to available parking.
Our offices will be closed Monday, February 15, 2021, in observance of Presidents’ Day. During the holiday week, garbage and trash collection will occur one day later than your regular collection day. If you have a Wastewater emergency, please call 843.795.2345.
