Wastewater

wastewater department

The Wastewater Department is responsible for maintaining the public wastewater collection system which serves approximately 13,000 retail customers and 1 wholesale customer. The wastewater collection system consists of gravity pipelines, lift stations and force mains conveying wastewater to Charleston Water System's (CWS) Plum Island Treatment Plant. A new initiative for this Department includes setting up and maintaining an ongoing program to reduce inflow/infiltration into the wastewater collections system. The developmental growth on James Island continues to increase the service area.

Our Wastewater Department maintains 61 pump stations and 7 pump stations for the City of Folly Beach, which are part of a system that provides collection services to all wastewater areas of the island, including the Town of James Island, City of Charleston and City of Folly Beach residents.
