The James Island Public Service District was formed under Act Number
498 of the 1961 General Assembly of the State of South Carolina
to provide services for fire protection, wastewater collection services,
solid waste collection services and street named signs in the
most cost effective manner. The District serves a population of
approximately 22,000 James Island residents. The District operates
under a Council/Manager form of government with the District Manager,
Robert Wise, serving as Chief Executive Officer reporting to the
Commission.
The Commission consists of 7 elected officials who serve 4 year
terms. Current Commissioners and their respective term expiration
dates are: Commission Chair Donald Hollingsworth (12/10), Commission Vice Chair Eugene Platt (12/12), Commisson Secretary June Warnig (12/12),
Commissioner Inez BrownCrouch (12/10), Commissioner Karen Clark
Thompson (12/10), Commissioner
Rod Welch (12/10) and Commissioner Gene Woodall, Jr. (12/12). The Commissioners regularly meet on the second
and fourth Mondays of every month at 7 p.m.
The District employs 125 personnel within 5 general departments,
which follow: Fire, Solid Waste, Wastewater, Maintenance and Administration.
